SWEDISH BEEF PATTIES (another family recipe)

This is one of the most typical Swedish comfort food dishes. In Swedish we call this type of home cooking "husmanskost". The traditional dish is called "pannbiff med lök" (beef patties with onion or onion sauce). However, I did not make the onion sauce this time, because I decided to make recipetineats.com's Potatoes au Gratin (Dauphinoise) and it doesn't disappoint! But don't worry, I will include the onion sauce recipe here below for those who would like to eat this dish the traditional way. There is a Danish version of this dish which I love! It's called "hakkebøf". So if you ever decide to visit Denmark, make sure you find a restaurant that serves it.

Enjoy! 💗Helena

INGREDIENTS: (23-24 meat patties)

  • 1.2kg beef, minced
  • 2 yellow onions, minced
  • 2 eggs
  • 150 ml bread crumbs
  • 200 ml milk
  • 2 teaspoons salt
  • ½ teaspoon black pepper

DIRECTIONS:
  1. Mix the milk with the bread crumbs in a large bowl and let it sit for 10 minutes to swell.

  2. Mince the onions.

  3. Add the rest of the ingredients and mix it all together.

  4. Form beef patties (size and shape should be decent size sliders).

  5. Fry the patties in a pan with butter on high heat for a minute or two so that they gain a nice exterior color.

  6. Place them in a big glass dish for example and cook them through in the oven at 200°C for approximately 10 minutes.
  7. Ready to serve with onion sauce, potatoes, lingonberry jam and pickles.
